Glencoe Lakefront Historic Structures

Glencoe Beach, operated by the Glencoe Park District, is situated at the foot of the Glencoe Bluffs natural formation along the Lake Michigan shore. The beach area is home to two distinctive Spanish Revival limestone buildings, built in 1928.  The Beach House sits along the beach at the bottom of the bluffs, and the Halfway House shelter is perched on the trail halfway down the bluff.  Both buildings are local historic landmarks.

A five-year phased rehabilitation plan incorporates a number of prioritized architectural, energy efficiency, and site improvements.  The renovation design addresses improvements to stone walls, stairs and paths throughout the site, replacement of the clay tile roofs, masonry repairs at all interior and exterior stone walls, refinishing of wood ceiling and rafter elements, and installation of new exterior LED lighting.
