University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Henry Admin Building

Originally constructed in 1911 as the Commerce Building, the University President noted at the ground-breaking that “the business interests of the country involved in banking, insurance, railroading, manufacturing, merchandising can be safely entrusted in the long run only to the liberally and technical educated man.” Only a few years after its construction, a 1914 addition was completed to house the University Administrative offices which were previously housed in the Natural Sciences Building.  In 1925 a new Commerce Building was completed, and the administration offices took over the remainder of what would become the Henry Administration Building.

Eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and located on the west side of the Campus Quadrangle, the rehabilitation of the Henry Administration building includes exterior envelope restoration of the roof, masonry, and windows, as well as HVAC, lighting and fire alarm upgrades.
