University of Chicago at Urbana-Champaign Veterinary Medicine

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Large and Small Animal Clinics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides emergency care, dentistry, surgery, and rehabilitation for both domestic and exotic animals.  Constructed in 1971 and designed by the architectural firm of Perkins & Will, the building’s architecture is notable for its pre-cast concrete panelized base, topped by a second floor of mansard-style standing steam roof and wall panels. 

The rehabilitation of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital included the 90,000 square foot replacement of the standing batten-seam metal roofing system and architectural fins.  The building was occupied by animals, students, faculty, and staff throughout the project.
